Mother's Poem

The Master Artist
paints a swath
of green on the canvas.
It is a bright,
crisp hue
like an asparagus stalk.
Springtime has delivered more good news,
soon we will know
if it is a pink or blue bundle
the stork has brought.
From the trees on high
to the blades of grass,
I stand in wonder
at the blessings of creation.
The rain comes
and waters what is thirsty,
to see a robin snatch a worm
we must be patient.
The hours of the clock tick on,
and the days with you my friend are long.
But the weeks,
and months,
and years,
they tell me,
go by in the sparkle of your beautiful eye.
I drink it in,
your gentle baby breath.
Thank you for coming into our world,
what a meaningful place it has become.
Just so you know,
You will always be my first baby,
as sweet as honeysuckle,
Brave as the brand new pony,
Curious as the fuzzy chick,
Smart as the bushy-tailed fox,
Friendly as the wet-nosed puppy,
Kind as the fat-bellied cat,
I hope you keep these shining qualities
and earn more stars
as we pass through time together.
