Sugar Mountain

Oh, to catch the sunset
on Sugar Mountain
and see the fog
rolling in the blue valley.
To be with our babies
and hold them
close to our chests.
Take all the necessary steps
to summit
and absorb the overlook
in delight.
We see the little houses,
and cows,
and know it is special,
this simplicity,
our family together in nature.
The summer heat and fireflies
remind us of our own childhood
while we now
make memories for our children.
Oh, to catch the sunset
on Sugar Mountain.
This is where you and I collide,
go back in time to just us,
how it all began.
The exciting times,
easy laughs,
night walks in the city,
open hearts,
freedom and space to think
and dream about just us.
Now wildflowers grow
on the hillside
for our little Jill
and trout swim in the stream
for our little Jack
The sky is striped
when we turn back
and know the pattern was designed
especially for us.
This is right
and we are full
with love and optimism
for our get along gang.
Hold onto the special moments
in the long days
and know the importance
of being little
and so innocent.
They are our greatest treasures.
We must hold them dearly,
care for them,
train them up,
and laugh with them always.
So someday,
when we are not there,
they too can taste the sugar on the mountain,
feel the heat on their skin,
and reach for adventure
